Alberta’s First Nations Consultation Policy on Land Management and Resource Development was approved on May 16, 2005. This Policy addresses the manner in which Alberta will consult with First Nations where Land Management and Resource Development on provincial Crown land may infringe on First Nations Rights and Traditional Uses.

The Policy provides for the development of First Nations Consultation Guidelines, which are intended to address specific questions about how consultation on land management and resource development initiatives and proposals should occur. These Guidelines are intended to be consistent with the Policy and the principles and definitions outlined in Alberta’s Framework for Consultation Guidelines.

The Government of Alberta's First Nations Consultation Guidelines on Land Management and Resource Development were released and came into effect on September 1, 2006. The Guidelines include sections reflecting the specific requirements of the Ministry of Environment as well as the Ministries of Energy, Sustainable Resource Development and Community Development.

The Policy, the Framework and the Guidelines are available online through Alberta International and Intergovernmental Relation's website at www.international.alberta.ca/.
