Environmental Education

Implementation of every environmental policy, program, project and plan comes down to a common denominator - environmental education (EE). Alberta Environment shares in the responsibility of helping Albertans build a solid foundation in environmental principles, access current information and develop the skills needed to make informed decisions.

EE increases public awareness and knowledge of environmental issues and challenges. It helps people gain an understanding of how their individual actions affect the environment, acquire skills that they can use to weigh various sides of issues, and become better equipped to make informed decisions. Through EE we work to inspire individual Albertans, corporate citizens, organizations and communities to participate in and contribute to the well-being of the Alberta's environment.

We promote environmental awareness through public events, special weeks and media campaigns. We educate stakeholders through workshops, presentations and compliance sweeps. We motivate Albertans to engage in environmental activities by developing place-based programs, partnerships and funding programs. We also promote the EE efforts of other organizations.

Our EE website provides environmental information for teachers, students and the public. We offer links to local, provincial, national and international environment-related events. We also connect you with environmental organizations, special programs and other ways to get involved in Alberta.
