Best Management Practices for Pipeline Construction in Native Prairie Environments

Petroleum development activities in the Western Sedimentary Basin have caused and continue to cause considerable disturbance to remaining native prairie ecosystems. Native prairie environments are valued and utilized by numerous stakeholders. Livestock producers depend on native prairie grasslands to provide valuable grazing opportunities on both publicly owned and deeded lands. Alteration of these sustainable grasslands, through improperly planned petroleum development activities, can delay the recovery time and alter the productivity of these valuable grasslands.

Best Management Practices For Conservation of Reclamation Materials in the Mineable Oil Sands Region of Alberta

The document was developed with the intention of providing leading practices that will help operators optimize the use of available reclamation materials on a site-specific basis. EPEA approvals state that operators should consider any guidelines prepared or provided by the Director related to the development of soil salvage and placement strategies. In this context, the BMPs will inform the development of the annual Soil Salvage and Placement Plans, the Mine Reclamation Plan and the Life of Mine Closure Plan – the BMPs are not intended to be used as evaluation criteria for appraising any particular operator.
