FAQ-Waste-Tires

Alberta's tire recycling program is increasingly recognized as one of the best recycling programs in Canada, and around the world. An environmental fee of $4 is collected on the sale of all new tires for licensed highway vehicles in Alberta. Eighty-five per cent of funds go directly into recycling programs, while the remaining funds are used for research and development, public information, fee collection and general administration. Recycled scrap tire products are finding their way into our highways, as well as other value-added community projects such as playgrounds, walkways, arenas and more.

Where do we recycle tires?

There are a number of sites across Alberta that collect tires for recycling. Many automobile service centers and tire dealers will accept used tires for recycling. Contact Alberta Recycling at 1-888-999-8762 or www.albertarecycling.ca for more information and locations near you.
