Municipalities across Alberta have various methods for the collection of recyclables. Several options exist, such as blue boxes, blue bags and recycling depots. Some programs require that you sort your recyclables in to "like" materials (e.g. paper, plastic, glass, etc.) while others collect all of the items together and then sort the materials at a recycling facility. In some cases recyclables are picked up through curbside collection programs and in other cases citizens need to take their recyclables to a designated location. Contact your municipality to find out what happens in your district. Or, check your YellowPages under “recycling” to find out more on recycling opportunities in your area. What can we put in our blue box or blue bag?The most common accepted recyclable materials are paper, cardboard, boxboard, metal (tin, steel, and aluminum cans), milk jugs, TetraPaks, plastics (including film plastics like grocery bags), and glass. Depending on the available facilities and the existing markets (those purchasing post-consumer materials), different municipalities accept varying combinations of these and other recyclable materials. Contact your municipality to find out what programs exist in your district and what materials are accepted for recycling. Or, check your YellowPages under “recycling” to find out more on recycling opportunities in your area. Who do we talk to regarding the environmental fees on various materials?
