Electronic waste can contain heavy metals (lead, mercury and cadmium) and other harmful substances such as brominated flame-retardants. Albertans can divert electronics from our landfills by participating in Alberta's electronics-recycling program,. Albertans can drop off their end-of-life TVs and computer equipment at over 220 collection sites across the province. Which electronics does the program accept?Alberta's e-waste recycling program currently accepts televisions, computer monitors, CPUs, laptops, electronic notebooks and printers for recycling. What about electronics that are not part of the program?Some private recycling companies accept other electronics, such as radios, VCRs, and DVDs, for a fee. What if I have a piece of electronic equipment that is still functional and could be reused?There are reuse companies and not-for-profit organizations that accept electronics for reuse. Where do we take computer equipment and televisions for recycling?There are over 100 municipal collection sites across Alberta that collect televisions and computer equipment for recycling. Some recycling facilities, landfills, and electronics businesses accept year-round drop-off. In other cases, communities hold regular electronics round-ups. As well, some companies will pick-up donations of electronic equipment.
