FAQ-Climate Change-Energy Efficiency

Albertans are making a big difference when it comes to reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. It could be your neighbour cycling to work, the small business that's installed energy-efficient lighting or the local government that's using solar power to heat the municipal swimming pool.

We, as a society, have come to recognize the importance of our environment and the fact that our actions have consequences. We no longer can take our resources for granted because as we have learned the hard way, they are a finite supply. The effects of our previous way of thinking are evident today, and include:

  • Smog
  • Air quality issues
  • Climate change
  • Rising energy costs
  • Diminishing supplies

There are many reasons why it's important to become energy efficient and to use sustainable resources such as:

  • A viable economy
  • A healthy environment
  • To extend the life of our resources

Where can I find tips on saving energy?

Where can I find information on rebates for energy efficient purchases?

Alberta citizens are often eligible to receive rebates on purchases that are environmentally friendly and help reduce energy consumption. Such programs have given rebates for furnaces, washers and dryers, and general energy efficient improvements to Albertan homes. Also, the Government of Canada now provides grants to homeowners who complete energy efficiency retrofits based on EnerGuide for Houses advisors' recommendations.
