FAQ-Climate Change-Climate Change Central

Late in 1999, the Alberta government brought private and public sector leaders together to find an effective way to manage climate change challenges in the province. The concept of Climate Change Central was formed and, in 2000, the public-private not-for-profit organization was officially launched.

The mission of Climate Change Central is to assist the people of Alberta, as individuals and through institutions, business and governments to become world leaders in identifying and implementing:

  • Policies, programs, and activities that most effectively reduce net greenhouse gas emissions through technological innovation, public outreach, and education; and
  • Strategies to remove obstacles and barriers to change, to adapt to climate change effects, and to improve energy efficiencies.

What programs does Climate Change Central offer?

Climate Change Central continuously offers a variety of dynamic programs and initiatives from individual rebates on energy efficient purchases, to supporting continuous improvement in the financial and environmental performance of vehicle fleets of all kinds, and purchasing greenhouse gas emissions from industry and municipalities to provide an economic incentive to reduce emissions. Some of these programs are on-going indefinitely and some have specific durations.

Visit Climate Change Central for more information on their current projects.
